I am getting old – er. I try not to obsess about it, but I hear the whispers when I walk in a room. “She’s showing her age.” Or “She colors her hair.” The mirror confirms it. Time is a terrible beautician. The clock ticks and the collagen weakens. It takes twice as long to look half as good.

It’s not just the outward appearance either. I wish I could remember half of what I think I know and where I put it. My mind often wanders and then sometimes it doesn’t come back. You know it’s funny, I don’t remember being absent minded.

It’s not just looking older that bothers me, it’s the passage of time. I just want to be able to continue doing what I love to do with the people that mean so much to me. I am very aware of time that each moment is special and should be fully lived.

I am very driven to create and part of that reason may be to leave part of me here or to just reach out to people who I know I will never get to meet. The world is full of beautiful people who I know I would love. Blogging is an opportunity to, in a small way, meet those wonderful people.

Well, I’ve been afraid of changing cause I’ve built my life around you
But time makes you bolder children get older
I’m getting older too. ~ Stevie Nicks

Wishing you much happiness.

Isn't that Fleetwood Mack song just bittersweet?

I know how you feel. Time flies...I have things to do, people to take care of. Weren't my babies just born?

How did my face get to looking like that?

The thoughts of a middle aged woman-isn't it a drag sometimes? I go to bed at 9:00pm everynight exhausted, from what I don't know, I have less energy, I have more wrinkles, more grey hair, more belly fat, what is up with that?? I think being creative will keep you young, being around family, blogging, and a positive outlook, which you already have!

I can relate to this post, unfortunately :-)

Love your yarn in the baby crib - so cute.

Have a great day.

Oh, Hon, you are still YOUNG and gorgeous!!!!
"Showing her age"
(?!)
G-rrr!
Shame on them!
They're just spiteful and jealous!
Ha!
You have so much going for you, Twyla- so many blessings in your life- don't listen to any lies!

You just keep doing what you love doing, hold your head up and know that you're still "one hot Mama"!

I joke that, I'm blogging my way through menopause, as a way to cope with it (going "cold turkey" without HRT). So far, it has helped me through the downhill slide, and like you say, we have opportunities to meet the best people. I've certainly met a lot of them and am so grateful for that. It's often really hard for me to comment, and check-in with each one on a regular basis, but just knowing those kindred souls are out there is comforting!

Oh Twyla ~ I know how you feel. For me, it's scary because my mom had alzheimer's. So when I start to forget something, it totally freaks me out. Then, I can't even get out of a chair without feeling like every bone is breaking. I hate getting and feeling older.

Hugz,
Michele

I am sending you a big HUG today Twyla.
Don't take any notice of what you overhear. Those people are not worth listening to. You are as young as you feel. You sound to be so busy crafting, visiting flea markets, having parties and visiting spooky hotels. I think you are allowed to be forgetful now and then with all that going on in your life.
I am grateful to the world of blogging for enabling us to be friends.

Oh, Twyla, I don't think you're getting old-er! Silly! You look great to me, and I would reconsider anyone who whispers "She's showing her age." How rude! You look fabulous to me! Suzie

Hello Old-er Friend !!
I am Older than YOU and I can so relate to your posts. ( Love the doll bed with your yarn) My mind is still "young" when its working:) Now when winter comes my body becomes a blob, I gain weight and don't have energy to do much. Good thing we create...it's so healthy for our minds and body. So, lets keep creating and getting our hair colored, and wearing make up and doing what makes us feel good.
That's my store and I'm sticking to it.
Warmly,
Deb

I know what you mean about memory - I'm always forgetting things, and I find I have to make the effort to write things down beacuse there's so much in my head I need to remember.
Don't forget that to people 10 or 20 years older than you, you will seem young! You certainly look very youthful to me.
Love the yarn photo.

Twyla, yesterday my hubby and I went out to lunch and there was a table of 10 women who had to be in their late 70s at least, some probably older, who all had their red hats on. They were having such a good time!

I can really relate to your post! Me too! I'm 63 and I'm going out fighting!

Those red hat ladies are an inspiration, aren't they! We have EXPERIENCE, girl! Let's flaunt it!

;-)

But the mirror doesn't lie. It is a whole new person looking back at us and it's a challenge to learn to like her in spite of lines and gray hair and sagging chin. WE CAN DO IT!! I think the trick is to just try to keep up our appearance and look the best we can for our age and still kick up our heels!

Pretty sure I'm older than you - but I can relate. Dang mirrors.
P.S. I love Landslide by Fleetwood Mac.

The coolest thing about age...because there isn't enough money in the world for me to go back & start again...
Each little wrinkle is a smile line. I am the youngest of three...one of my sisters is 18 years older than me...I HAVE MORE WRINKLES than her! But when I see them & drown them with creams that smell of something older than me...I try to remember the laughs that helped them grow.
Somehow makes them more tolerable!
:)
Wishing you the best~
