Is there any more endearing fairytale
character than Little Red Riding Hood?
I have a soft spot in my heart for her.

Not sure why except for pleasant memories of
my grandmother reading me the story many
times, but then she also read The Three Bears
to me a lot, too!

I thought I'd share with you my collection
of Little Red figurines, salt and pepper shakers,
and planters.

Aren't they sweet?!

Thanks for visiting with me throughout
the month of May.  It's been a pleasure
sharing bits of my world with you.
Have a wonderful day!

If you know me, then you know how I
love old things.  I have been collecting
autograph books for years.
My dear daughter, Lindsey,
gave me this antique autograph book for
Mother's Day.

She knows not to go to the mall to get
me something I'll really cherish:)  No, it's the
old, used and well loved items that I really
appreciate!

This one is particularly special to me because
it is from someone who lived in Missouri.
It appears to have belonged to someone who
lived in Portland, MO and there are also autographs
from Hermann, MO.

It appears to have been kept and used for several
years.  The dates span from 1890 to 1912.

There are several pages of these funny
old stickers in it also.

I love seeing the handwriting in these old
autograph books and reading their long ago thoughts.
  It was a special gift!
Thank you, Lindsey!

There's nothing like a nap on a pile of laundry.
Even a small pile of laundry.
Barney thought it looked like the perfect bed
and seems to be saying, "No, you can't have it,
it's mine!"
That's okay, I didn't want to fold it anyway!

Hi!

I am happy to show you the finished afghan!

One of my dear blog friends mentioned to me she
had these blocks sitting in her closet and wished she
knew someone to sew them up for her.

I told her I'd help her with them.
She mailed them to me and I've been sewing the
hexagons together since last Wednesday.

I added the border myself.  I hope she likes it!

It's been a fun challenge!  I really enjoyed making it
and feeling the accomplishment of finishing an afghan
that someone else started!

May 27 - Barn Charm

This week's barn comes from a 'field trip' I took
last week to a very interesting Missouri park.
It's called Missouri Town 1855.
It's in Jackson County near Lee's Summit.

It is a town that was recreated from old buildings to
show what life was like in a village in the mid-1800's.

They also have animals in the park such as these
sheep.  It was neat to see the little lambs.

There are many buildings such as this one as well as
other barns.  I will show you more in another post.
I really loved the chickens!
I'm linking to Barn Charm.  Be sure to visit to
see more interesting barns!

For those of you who are wondering,
I am still putting the border on the afghan I am
crocheting.  I will have it done to post a picture
of it tomorrow:)

I hope you all have had a beautiful weekend!
It was nice here in Missouri!
I have finished sewing the blocks together on the
afghan I am doing for my friend.  I am in the
process of putting a border on it now.
I hope to have a finished picture to show
you tomorrow!

May 24th and I'm still tootling right along,
doing a post a day!  I am enjoying it!
I may continue through June!

You may know by now that iris are my favorite
flower.  I saw some real beauties at our local
botanical garden.  I was fascinated with the brown
one (above).  It's called a Huckleberry Fudge iris!

Saturday, May 25th is my 34the wedding anniversary.
It's been a tough year for my husband.  He's had two
major surgeries this year and has just now gotten back
to work.  We'll go out for dinner, but no other special
plans.  If I'd known 34 years ago I would have never
gotten married on Memorial Day weekend!  We've always
ran into 'No Vacancy' at hotels, busy restuarants and long
lines!

I have a sneak peak at the blanket I am
sewing up for a friend!
(See post below)

Lots of pretty blocks to be joined!

I am about half way done!  Once I
get done with this part, I will crochet a border
around the whole thing.  I sure hope she likes it!

I recently offered to help a friend out with
a crochet project.  She was given these hexagons
and she doesn't crochet so the box was just sitting
in a closet.

I received the box today and excitedly started
unpacking all the hexagons, anxious to see what
all was there.  I was pleasantly surprised to see
that there were plenty to make a nice sized afghan!

As you can see, there are a lot of hexagons!
It makes me very happy to help her with this.
I'll show you soon how it's coming along!

One day last week I received a package in
the mail from a dear friend.  Holly, of Cutie Pie
Cottage, has been a friend since we got acquainted
through our blogs.  She made me the adorable button
ball garland in my favorite color combination of
pink and red.  I started out with it on my shelves,
but I also have other ideas of where it will look
pretty.  Holly makes these pretty garlands in all
colors.  She's very talented!  Thank you, Holly for
your thoughtfulness and friendship!

In my hometown, the founder's homestead has
been recreated.  It's called the Gray/Campbell
Farmstead.  They have moved the buildings to
a nearby park.  This is the barn.

This is a log cabin on the site.  It's a lovely place
to visit.  I had the pleasure of visiting Sunday afternoon.

As I get ready for bed this evening, the thunder
is rumbling outside and we are under a tornado
watch.  My thoughts and prayers go out to all
those struck by the devastating tornadoes.

Today was a beautiful day and although I am
far from a great photographer, the flowers were
so pretty that the pictures can't help but be good!
This is a most unusual variety of peony.  I
loved it!
