Scrapin 9 to 5....

Hello friends!
Last week I shared a tag tutorial using October Afternoon's
9 to 5 paper, this week I am sharing a mini album made with it!

I just love this paper line!
Of course, I seem to love every line October Afternoon makes!
It's got such a cool retro vibe to it!
I've also never created with a work themed line
and that was a lot of fun!

I also like how versatile this paper is!
The colors would be great for Fall themed crafts!

I haven't seen this paper line at stores in my area yet,
and couldn't wait to get my hands on it,
so I ordered it from here on ebay.

I listed this album for sale here in my ebay shop!

I also created a layout this week using this paper.
I used a sketch provided by October Afternoon
for a sketch challenge.

Have a bright and cheery day, Lindsey

Twyla on Tuesday - Memorial Weekend/Journal

Hello lovely ladies!
I've had a nice holiday weekend
and I hope you have, too!
First off, I celebrated my 33rd
anniversary with my husband on Friday.

We had a lovely visit to a truly
gorgeous town in Missouri.
Some things that stood out to
me for their beauty was the
door on a house built mid-
1800's and the Carnegie Library
(below) built 1905 and on the
National Registry of Historic
Places.

We visited Riverview Cemetery
which sits high above the town of
Louisiana, MO.  It has breathtaking
views of the Mississippi river and
the town below.

I also managed to get in some crafting!
I gathered some supplies from my stash
to make a new journal.

A 'smash book' of sorts.  I intend to use it
to put favorite pictures, things I want to
remember, inspirations and whimsy.

I love using composition notebooks for
my journals.  I start by covering it  with
pretty scrapbook paper.  I then prepare
it by going through and gluing two pages
together with my trusty glue stick.
I like the weight
of the pages so much better this
way and it holds up to the pieces of
scrapbook paper and pictures I glue
in them.

I am then ready to embellish with paper,
pictures, stamps and my favorite thing -
the whipped stitch edges!

Yes, it's been a most enjoyable holiday
weekend.  So many blessings and so
many wonderful memories.
Thank you for visiting today!
I hope your day is wonderful!
Love, Twyla

Irmi Monday - Birdhouse

Hello friends!
Happy Memorial Day!
Today's Irmi piece is a night light.
Shaped like a birdhouse with 2 sweet little birdies,
the colors are my favorite combo of pink and aqua!

If you've never heard of Irmi before,
they created hand painted, wooden nursery items
from the 50's through the 70's.
Irmi also went by the names of
 Nursery Originals and Nursery Plastics.
They created lamps, switchplates, mobiles, plaques,
night lights and other wooden nursery items.

Have a wonderful day, Lindsey

Tag Tutorial - Retro Secretary

Hello friends!
I purchased October Afternoon's brand new
9 to 5 paper line this week.
It's such a cute retro work/secretary themed line!
I created this tag and thought I would share the tutorial with you!

I started with a kraft colored tag. I purchased the set of 20 kraft
tags by Ranger from Hobby Lobby, you can also find them at most other craft stores. I also picked out the sheet of Secretaries from my paper collection.

I cut out my image and decided how I wanted to place her on the tag.

I then took a white spray mist and spritzed my tag.
If you don't have the spray, you can take white paint, thin it down
with water and flick across the tag with a toothbrush.

Take a 1 x 5 1/2 inch strip of paper (blue houndstooth) and rip the
paper along one side. Adhere to tag. Cut another piece (green stripe)
1 1/2 x 4 1/2 and also rip edge. Adhere to tag.

Cut a scallop or flower shape from patterned paper and adhere to tag.

Take your cut image and adhere using foam adhesive to make it pop!

Then cut a strip of coordinating paper with a border punch and adhere along the bottom of the tag.

Add a sentiment or sticker to the bottom corner of the tag.

Tie a bow through the top of the tag. I used seam binding ribbon that I buy by the roll from Hug Snug (purchased on ebay). I then dyed it with Wild Honey Distress Stain.

I added a stick pin through the foam adhesive
to add a girly touch to the tag.

I glued a small paper rose to the center of my bow.

That's it! Super easy and a great way to use up scraps!
Perfect accent for a card, layout or as a gift tag!

Hope you enjoyed!
Have a bright and happy day, Lindsey

Twyla on Tuesdays - Barns

Hello friends!
I love a drive in the country.
Sunday afternoon spent driving through
a Missouri countryside is my idea of
a great way to spend the day!

I'm always attracted to the beautiful old
barns that sit along the highways.  Whether
they're still in use or abandoned and
falling apart, I think they all have character
and a story to tell.

I was never lucky enough to live on a farm
although my grandparents did and I
can still remember my grandpa's barn that he
built himself.  No longer standing, it is one of
the places I remember playing as a child.

What is it about these old barns that are so charming?  I love
the pealing paint and the rustic wood.  I think there is a
romance about old barns.  It brings up thoughts of times
gone by and a different way of life.

Thanks for coming along with me on my drive
down the Missouri byways.  It's been my pleasure
bringing you along!
Have a wonderful day!
Love, Twyla

Vintage ABC Picture Book

Hello friends!
I wanted to share a sweet vintage childrens book with you today!
This is a ABC Picture Book by Merrill publishing.

It's from 1942. It's pretty torn and ripped,
but has several sweet graphics.

I can't find the illustrators name, but I think that it was
written on one of the missing page corners.

I love the sweet styles!
So cute to print up and use on cards and tags!

Wishing you happiness, Lindsey

Playtimes Past

Hello friends!
I picked up an older pad of Graphic 45 paper
recently at Hobby Lobby.
It was on clearance, so I couldn't pass it up!
This line was called, Playtimes Past.

So of course when I saw it I thought,
I need to make a mini with this!!

This paper line has a lovely blend of
 children and primitive themed paper.
I Used Weathered Wood Distress Stain to dye
seam binding for my ribbon.

These Prima paper flowers matched perfectly!
I find these flowers match several of G45's paper lines.

I cut black swirls from the Tim Holtz Elegant Flourishes die.
I also enjoy using flowers by Recollections from Michaels.
I stock up on the rose style ones when they run a sale.

Have a lovely day, Lindsey

Twyla on Tuesday - Puppy love and Journal update

Hello friends!
I am so lucky.  I have such little sweeties to live with!
This is my Muffin.  He is just the sweetest thing, but
hates when a dog is on tv!  He runs over to the tv and
barks at it!

This is Barney.  Our little rescued bichon.  He is so loveable.
In fact, he's the first dog I've ever had that would rather
have a snuggle than food.

Spencer, our poodle.  Just a boy alone with his thoughts.
I have to wonder what he is thinking about here.  Maybe
that the sun feels good after just getting clipped!

Work is progressing on my Psalm journal.  I am actually up
to Psalm 22!  I love copying these words.  They bring me
such peace.

I decorate each page with stamps and scrapbook papers, punches
and markers.  It's a real labor of love.

I glue two pages together because I like the way the pages feel.
At this rate, it will probably take several journals to encompass
all of Psalms.

Thank you for dropping by today!
Have a wonderful day!
Love, Twyla
