The Wonderful Wizard of OZ Gala!

"Why don't you come along with us? We're on our way to see the Wizard now."

For 70 years children of all ages have been tripping down the Yellow Brick Road to the Merry Ole Land of Oz.

Today, we celebrate this most ambitious movie of it's time.

It pulls at our heartstrings for it's ability to make us feel like a child again.

Who could ever forget the anticipation and excitement as it draws you into it's magical land?

Let's follow Dorothy, her friends and Toto, yes, Toto too, on her journey back home.

Watch out! There will be a witch and flying monkeys that might thwart your goal.

There are parties to attend and wonderous creations to behold!

Let's put on our ruby slippers and click our heels and spend the day in Oz.

"I can't wait forever to get those shoes!"

"Only bad witches are ugly. "

"Going so soon?"

"I wouldn't hear of it."

"Why, my little party is just beginning."

I hope you've enjoyed your visit here, somewhere over the rainbow.

As the Wizard says: A heart is not judged by how much you love, but by how much you are loved by others.

To show our appreciation for the support for our Wizard of Oz Gala, we would like to share some Wizard of Oz treasures. To win this give away, shown in the following photo, all you have to do is bring us the witch's broom!

If that proves too difficult for you, just leave a comment on this post to be eligible to win.

"Are you ready, Toto? Let's go!"

WUNNERFUL!!!! My mood is as spiffed and buffed as Dorothy and Co. did after their arrival at Oz (remember the Lion and his crisp curled mane w/bow topper?)

Oh -- you should know this -- I was at the movies yesterday and saw that for ONE DAY ONLY selected theatres nationwide are going to show the Wizard of Oz for one day only. Wouldn't it be magical to see it on the big screen?

Thanks for sharing the Oz fun, so many creative things to oooooh over, and I can tell you must have had such fun setting up and photographing all of it.

Cheers, ladies!

I have to withdraw from participation in the Wizard of Oz Gala. I had hoped to work this out, but couldn't. My dear niece is a great fan and collector and I had asked about using some of her stuff---dolls, costumes, and many varied items from plays of the the show. We had even discussed ways I could do a blog event with this. Then their home was crunched (literally) by a huge tree a little over two weeks ago. This 60 ft. tree fell through the outside wall and roof and destroyed things during a storm. Although the things in her bedroom and cabinets was spared, everything from the house was removed by the insurance cleaning people and is stored. They are now out of the hotel and into a temp house, but all of their things are stored. This week they have been slowly getting things brought back as they were cleaned and brought back with things they need to live, but alas all of this stuff has not been returned. I will be visiting all the sites. I hope you see this in time to pull the name of Playing Dishes from your list. Taylor is a senior this year in high school and their first show of the fall will be Wizard of Oz. I will share some things after it with you!!!!

This is such an artistically beautiful blog post - the way you did the black and white and then (just like in the movie) as we scroll down - gorgeous color!

Love it.

And then we get to enjoy your beautiful paper crafts and creations.

Cute little Madame Alexander doll.

And those fantastic ruby slippers - perfect.

Prescious little Muffin as Toto and those shoes on your Dorothy - so cute.

Thank you for hosting this!

Such creativity, Lindsey! The banners, the Glinda BIG badge-- and even the subtle, itty-bity touches! (My favourite being the crepe paper Yellow Brick Road!) ***get's caught up in Oz-blog gazing at the Over-the-Rainbow splendor, then snaps to*** WHOA! I'd better get dressed! Has anyone seen my rubber slippers???

The mailman just delivered! To heck with the Ruby Reds, I'm wearing wonderful, beautiful, my-toesies-couldn't-be-happier GREEN HOUSE SLIPPERS today! Thank you, THANK YOU, Twyla! (More appreciation to be sent your way.) They are lovely and such perfect timing, as well!

P.S. I loved how you allowed us to "open the door" into Technicolor, just like the movie-- CLEVAH! And I love "your little dog, too"!

Chandra said...

I enjoyed your crafty goodies! I loved the banner too! Thanks so much for doing this, I have had fun preparing for it.

My favorite thing you did were the Wicked Witch of the East's feet. Do tell how you made those!

I *think* the witches broom is on the sticker sheet below the blue box...where the tin man, toto, and lion are cleaning. ???

So, enter me into your giveaway if I didn't get it right! :)

Lynn said...

You did a superb job with this!! Love it!!

Made me think about a sweet lady in our church 20 yrs ago I think. She was a teenager when the movie came out. Some how there was a raffle connected with the theaters for a pair of Dorothy's ruby slippers (there were several pair she wore in the movie) as part of the movie debut. Dorothy's ruby "dancing shoes" were the ones raffled off. This sweet lady in Memphis, TN won those ruby slippers. She and the ruby slippers would visit the different schools in Memphis and share fun and facts with the children about the ruby slippers and the movie. She really made a "mission" of it. Eventually she had the shoes auctioned at Christie's in NY. The substantial $$$ realized became her and hubby's retirement fund.

Thanks for letting me share this special story.

Lynn said...

That first sentence in my comment sounded a bit strange....I think it was about 20 years ago she had them auctioned....that makes more sense. (smile)
