Barbie Wednesday

Hello friends!
I love finding interesting facts about Barbie! I thought I would share a few of these interesting thoughts with you!

During the first year of her introduction in 1959, 351,000 Barbie dolls were sold.

It is so interesting to read about the fictional life created for Barbie and her friends and family.
Barbie's parents are George and Margaret Roberts. George served as a pilot in the Navy.

The military series of Barbie dolls, Army, Air Force, Navy and Marine Corps went through approvals by the Pentagon to ensure the most realistic costumes.

In Sweden, more Barbie dolls have been sold than the country's current population. In 1980, in India, Barbie cost 236 rupees which is $18.00 US dollars which was equivalent to an average Indian's entire months salary.

In 2007 the average 3- to 10-year-old girl in the U.S. owned eight Barbies.

I have shown photos of the new vintage series of the Wizard of Oz Barbies but I wanted to show you how cute the boxes are! I truly can't wait to add these cuties to my collection!

Have a fun day, Lindsey

Those boxes seem more cuter than the dolls!:D

236 rupees equals around 5$ today...

I was nine years old in 1959, and my Mom bought me one of those original Barbie dolls. I was in love. I saved my allowance so I could buy her new clothes. Each outfit came in a flat box, with the outfit spread out.....they sold for $1.25 each. I love your Wednesday Barbie blog posts, and look forward to them every week! Thanks,
hugs,
Kathleen

My mother had one of the first Barbies. She had a large flat box full of clothes and accessories. I was able to play with her when I was little. The Barbie was in pristine condition!! Very well taken care of. She lost her when my parents split 13 years ago. He took her and wouldn't give her back out of spite. I think he said he sold her. So, now she is gone. Sad. Because my mother loved her doll, and eventually she would of been mine. What a great heirloom piece to have!

I was 7 in 1959 and had the first barbie in the bathing suit with a black pony tail. Or did I spray paint her head? Yes, even then I was always painting something!

I loved my Barbies! I received my first one in the 1960's. I remember she had blond hair that was done in a bouffant hairdo. I also had Ken and Skipper. I had a Barbie dollhouse that opened like a suitcase. I thought it was great! I enjoyed reading about her history. Thanks for sharing it with us.
