Vintage finds

Hello Friends, I found a fun and unique apron recently hanging in an Antique store.
A Snow White apron! It's beautifully embroidered and so cute!!!

I love the colors! Aren't the little dwarfs sweet?

The pocket is so neat! I have never seen an apron quite like it!

As most of you know I have an addiction to vintage cards. So I was thrilled to find this vintage card box!!

These cards are so cute!!! This is the top of the box.

Here is the inside cover.

The inside.

I love, love, love this little mermaid card and wish so badly that I could scan the image or that it had been on the outside of the box so that I could see it more!

Thank you for stopping by! Have a wonderful weekend, Lindsey and Twyla

Storing your Barbies

I thought I would talk about displaying and storing your dolls. If you want to display a Barbie that is not in it's original box, then ideally it would be best to be kept in a case or curio cabinet.

It's important to keep your dolls out of direct sunlight because it can fade her clothes and sometimes fade Barbie's hair. Also, please display them standing up rather than in a sitting position. Sitting them will stretch out their clothing. I have several dolls that have trouble keeping their shorts up! : )

I don't have a case to store mine so I try to make sure to clean and dust my dolls regularly and only sit them down for short periods.

Vintage dolls came with great wire stands. I am lucky enough to have found one for Ken and Skipper. But you can find reproduction stands on ebay. These are three repro stands pictured above.

If you wish to store opened dolls, I would recommend wrapping them in acid free tissue paper and storing them in plastic tubs. Then store them in a climate controlled room. Extreme heat would melt your dolls and a damp area would mildew your dolls.

Our good friend Deb was invited to a Barbie themed party recently and I just had to show you how cute she looked!

Happy Barbie Wednesday, Lindsey

Happy Tuesday, Everyone! It's so nice to be visiting with you again. So much has been going on lately and much to catch up on. Because of my birthday and the Wizard of Oz Gala I haven't done a post in a while on the treasures that I have found. The photo below is an arrangement of some of my country treasures on the top of our fireplace. My son, Jordan, made this arrangement for me and took the picture.

I saw this Little Red Riding Hood wall pocket in an antique store one day. I looked at it, amazed that it wasn't more expensive. I didn't buy it that day, but went home and looked it up on ebay. Let me tell you, I couldn't wait to get back to that store and buy it! I was just hoping it was still there! I see these occasionally and they all look different. This one has a design number on the back.

This is another of the sweet motto prints I picked up. I loved the color of the frame and of course, the steep roofed cottage!

We have been traveling all over Missouri going to antique stores and flea markets that we've never been to before. We are having so much fun this summer. On a trip to Camdenton I found this little bird that I have been looking for for a while now. Isn't it adorable?!

There's some things you pick up and you think, 'That's cute, do I want this?' and then there's things that you grab up quickly and say, 'Oh, I love it!' and you don't dare put it back down. That's the way it was with this little bird creamer.

This planter was from a shop in Osage Beach, MO. Is that cute or what?! You know, if you're ever in Missouri and go antiquing you may run into me! There are certain things I look for when I go. Planters, of course, Folk Art Pfaltzgraff, enamelware, tea trivets and figurines. I can't resist a sewing machine drawer and I love the old woven sewing baskets. I always have my eyes open for Enid Collins wooden purses, vintage cards, dress patterns, and postcards.

Some of my treasures were inherited. This sweet little set of deer belonged to my Aunt Pearl. It is a joy to have them now. She lived in Illinois and I only saw her once a year.

Sunday I was in an antique store in Joplin and found this sweet little deer. He was so precious that I had to bring him home with me.

I hope you enjoyed catching up on my treasure hunting with me. I wish we could just all get together and go antiquing! My kids and I are going to continue enjoying our daycations this summer and see what else we can find!
I hope you all are enjoying your week! Twyla

Hello friends,

Sanrio is the company that created the extremely popular Hello Kitty line. In 2007 Mattel came out with this Hello Kitty Barbie. She has a fabulous faux leather jacket and striped shirt which reminds me of Barbie's original bathing suit. She is cute but very modern in style.

A year late Mattel release this ultra cute Hello Kitty Barbie! She is so awesome! I love her hair style and makeup! She has a retro 50's and vintage Barbie feel to her that I love! Even the open toe heels are reminiscent of a vintage doll.

Mattel also released a My Melody Barbie. My Melody is cute bunny created by Sanrio and is one of Hello Kitty's Friends. I was very lucky in finding this doll at Tuesday Morning for only ten dollars! I don't visit Tuesday Morning very often and I forget they get in Barbies every now and then. I stopped in the other day hoping to find the Little Red Riding Hood Barbie and instead found this lovely doll. If you have a Tuesday Morning store in you area you should go look around unless of course you live in my area which then save the Barbies for me please!!!!!!!!

The face of the My Melody Barbie reminds me of a vintage Midge doll. The hair color and the freckles on her checks.

It's funny, back in the 60's Japan they thought that Midge was so ugly that they created a different version!

Thanks for stopping by, Lindsey

I can't begin to say what a blessing you all are to me and Lindsey. We have been so blessed by our dear blogging friends in so many ways. Not only do you open your heart and homes to us and share your joys and dreams, you also give of yourself to make others happy.

We received these lovely gifts from Holly at Girls at Heart. Holly knows Lindsey likes Hello Kitty and she knows we love craft supplies!

Aren't these tags beautiful? She shared these adorable little decals with us too. So sweet. We have to find something worthy of them to put them on. I love those little bluebirds! Thank you, Holly!

I got a special surprise in the mail from Deb. It was for my birthday! Isn't she sweet to remember my birthday? She collected these items knowing that I would like them. It's so awesome that people read our blog and know exactly what we like!

I commented on her post where she showed this little kitten planter that I had one in pink, one in blue and one in green. She thought I should have the yellow one too! I must admit they make a very cute litter.

This vintage poodle tea towel was from Deb also. By the way, I am still virtually walking to Deb's house. As of today I have now walked 155 miles! I am getting up into northern Missouri, but I still have Iowa to walk through!

Elizabeth of Creative Breathing is having a wonderful swap. She is asking anyone who would like to participate to send her a 5 inch square block that you have decorated in your style, then she will send you a square she made. Once she gets everyone's block she will make a banner with the blocks to hang in her craft room. I was so thrilled today when I received my block from her!

Isn't that adorable?! And, she decorated the back too! Too cute! I love both sides! Thank you, Elizabeth!

One of our readers who lives in Missouri came to the Scrap Nook about a month ago hoping to run into Lindsey. You may remember Lindsey telling about it in an earlier post. I had the pleasure last Saturday of getting to visit with her when she was down for a visit and came back to the store. She also sent us a lovely box with items that she'd found at sales that she new we'd like. This sweet little motto print just thrilled me! You know how I love these! She also sent me a mushroom tidleywink game and Lindsey some Barbie items. Thank you, Michelle, I enjoyed our visit so much!

Like I said, we are so blessed to know each and every one of you. All who read our blog and those we have come to know, are so special to us.
It is a blessing to be able to share what we like with others who have similar interests. It's a wonderful world where we can talk and make friends and enjoy each other's company on a daily basis. In this world of so much busy going on, I am so thankful for those of you who reach out to us with kindness. Thank you to all who read and leave comments. It truly warms my heart.

It is my heartfelt wish that you all have a joyful week! Twyla

Wizard of Oz inspiration!

We want to share a little OZ inspiration today!!

This is a picture of the original Ruby Slippers. See how dark they are? They were made using dark red sequins because of the Technicolor. Bright red sequins made the shoes look orange while dark red sequins made the shoes perfect!

Are you ready to follow the yellow brick road? If you haven't signed up yet for the Gala there is still plenty of time!!!!

Designer Tarina Tarantino created a beautiful Wizard of Oz line recently. I thought it was very inspiring!

I love this photo. It does not show off the jewelry very well but I love the stairs leading up to the Emerald city.

By looking up Wizard of Oz coloring pages on Google you can find several pages from an old coloring book. I have printed a few for the party!

I found Wizard of Oz scrapbook paper on ebay! Here is a peak at some of the paper I have that I am using in my creations for the Gala!

I hope that I have inspired you today! The Gala is on August 22nd!!!!!!!!

The official Wizard of Oz website is also really awesome!

We are still accepting participants if you would like to join!

Happy crafting, Lindsey and Twyla
