May 30

If you know me, then you know how I
love old things.  I have been collecting
autograph books for years.
My dear daughter, Lindsey,
gave me this antique autograph book for
Mother's Day.

She knows not to go to the mall to get
me something I'll really cherish:)  No, it's the
old, used and well loved items that I really
appreciate!

This one is particularly special to me because
it is from someone who lived in Missouri.
It appears to have belonged to someone who
lived in Portland, MO and there are also autographs
from Hermann, MO.

It appears to have been kept and used for several
years.  The dates span from 1890 to 1912.

There are several pages of these funny
old stickers in it also.

I love seeing the handwriting in these old
autograph books and reading their long ago thoughts.
  It was a special gift!
Thank you, Lindsey!

Have a nice day!

What a beautiful and thoughtful gift. People had such beautiful handwriting back then. A real art. Did you have an autograph book when you were young? Mine was a cute little book with illustrations by a Scandinavian artist. I took some pictures and meant to do a post about it, but then real life got busy and I never got it written up. Soon.

Hi Twyla! This is such a lovely gift. I remember when we moved up from elementary school to middle school we were given autograph books for all of our teachers and friends to sign. I still have mine tucked away somewhere. I've never seen a really old one like this. Makes you wonder about the folks who wrote those nice things. :) xo

Yes, handwriting was really something special back then. And to think some schools nowadays are opting not to teach cursive! I'm floored.

My Grandmother gave me hers and I love reading it! It is a true treasure! Some of the sayings were so funny!

What a special gift! You're making me wonder what I've done with my old autograph books - not that they're quite as interesting, but perhaps they will be someday. Have a nice weekend!

What a treasure! I remember Laura Ingalls wrote about having an autograph book. ♥

Oh what a beautiful gift! I have an autograph book from about 3rd grade of my own! It is a treasure to me, just not quite as old as yours:) Hugs to you and Happy Weekend!
