Barbie Wednesday

Hello friends,

One of the main misconceptions I see with Barbies is when trying to identify a doll's age. Some people believe that the date on the back of the doll (usually on the bottom) is the date the doll was made. It actually is the date that the mold was made, not the doll. The best way to tell your doll's age is by the face. Here is a picture of dolls from the late 50's to 90's showing their different head molds and how their looks have changed throughout the decades.

I received the newest Barbie collector catalog in the mail today. I highly recommend getting one of these catalogs! They're free, and the images of the dolls are great for altered art!

I found lots of new exciting items in to want! Like this set of mini Barbies. Aren't they cute!!!!!! They are only 2.5 inches tall! They are too cute! I think I will need two sets. One for displaying and one to stay in the package.

There were several pages of home decor items created by Jonathan Adler. He was the designer of the Barbie mansion. As you can imagine these pieces are very expensive and this pillow will never see my bed, but they are very pretty to look at!

I really like the look of the canister set! I especially want the little one that says "Dolls".

Along with the release of the Generation of Dreams Barbie is a beautiful collection of goodies! I would like to add the watch to my collection of Barbie watches! And the t-shirt is so cute!

Hello Everyone!

From time to time I get asked to do a tag. I usually procrastinate and put it off until I forget about it. I would like to take this time to do a tag post about myself telling 6 random things about me.

To break up the subjects, I will show you some of the postcards in my collection. I love old postcards and keep them in a photo album. I love the backs almost as much as the fronts because I love to read what the people wrote to each other back then. I know that unused ones are more valuable, but I like the used ones best! Okay, so now that I've told you that, I'll make this number one!

Number two - I am uncomfortable talking about myself. I always try to get the other person to talk about themselves. It's not that I have anything to hide - I don't think.

Number three - My new favorite food is the McDonald's angus burger! Honestly, I didn't know burgers could taste this good. I alternate between the Deluxe and the Bacon cheese. I know it's naughty, but we are enjoying them! Add an Iced Mocha to it and you have one delicious meal!

Number four - I know this may come as quite a shock to many of you in the craft world, but I don't like glitter. I say this almost shamefully. It's not that I don't like the look of it and the pretty sparkle, it's just that I don't like getting it on myself! You can't hardly get it off and it gets everywhere. When Lindsey was little I wouldn't let her use it because she would make such a mess with it. She is making up for lost time now.

Number five - I'm deathly afraid of heights. It is an irrational fear. I can't go up staircases if they are very steep and I have to have rails. I hate driving across bridges. I have to look straight ahead and hug the center line.

Number six - I love the food network. That is about the only channel I have on when I am in control of the tv. I love so many of the hosts but my favorite is Guy Fieri.

Now, if you are still with me, I'd like to show you where we went Sunday! Our daycation took us to Joplin, MO.

The most awesome antique store we've ever seen! We couldn't believe all the antiques that were here, but we looked the back of the store and look what was sitting back there!

A room filled with Steiff animals and vintage toys! All arranged so beautifully. We could hardly believe our eyes.

We took these pictures so that we could share them with all of our blogging friends.

We can hardly wait to go back to this magical place!

We are looking so forward to Saturday's Wizard of Oz Gala! I can't wait to see how each of the participants are going to celebrate the Wonderful Wizard of Oz. If you are participating, thank you so much! If you are coming by to look at the Oz posts, I hope you have a magical time!

Wishing you all much happiness! Twyla

Vintage finds

Hello Friends, I found a fun and unique apron recently hanging in an Antique store.
A Snow White apron! It's beautifully embroidered and so cute!!!

I love the colors! Aren't the little dwarfs sweet?

The pocket is so neat! I have never seen an apron quite like it!

As most of you know I have an addiction to vintage cards. So I was thrilled to find this vintage card box!!

These cards are so cute!!! This is the top of the box.

Here is the inside cover.

The inside.

I love, love, love this little mermaid card and wish so badly that I could scan the image or that it had been on the outside of the box so that I could see it more!

Thank you for stopping by! Have a wonderful weekend, Lindsey and Twyla

Storing your Barbies

I thought I would talk about displaying and storing your dolls. If you want to display a Barbie that is not in it's original box, then ideally it would be best to be kept in a case or curio cabinet.

It's important to keep your dolls out of direct sunlight because it can fade her clothes and sometimes fade Barbie's hair. Also, please display them standing up rather than in a sitting position. Sitting them will stretch out their clothing. I have several dolls that have trouble keeping their shorts up! : )

I don't have a case to store mine so I try to make sure to clean and dust my dolls regularly and only sit them down for short periods.

Vintage dolls came with great wire stands. I am lucky enough to have found one for Ken and Skipper. But you can find reproduction stands on ebay. These are three repro stands pictured above.

If you wish to store opened dolls, I would recommend wrapping them in acid free tissue paper and storing them in plastic tubs. Then store them in a climate controlled room. Extreme heat would melt your dolls and a damp area would mildew your dolls.

Our good friend Deb was invited to a Barbie themed party recently and I just had to show you how cute she looked!

Happy Barbie Wednesday, Lindsey

Happy Tuesday, Everyone! It's so nice to be visiting with you again. So much has been going on lately and much to catch up on. Because of my birthday and the Wizard of Oz Gala I haven't done a post in a while on the treasures that I have found. The photo below is an arrangement of some of my country treasures on the top of our fireplace. My son, Jordan, made this arrangement for me and took the picture.

I saw this Little Red Riding Hood wall pocket in an antique store one day. I looked at it, amazed that it wasn't more expensive. I didn't buy it that day, but went home and looked it up on ebay. Let me tell you, I couldn't wait to get back to that store and buy it! I was just hoping it was still there! I see these occasionally and they all look different. This one has a design number on the back.

This is another of the sweet motto prints I picked up. I loved the color of the frame and of course, the steep roofed cottage!

We have been traveling all over Missouri going to antique stores and flea markets that we've never been to before. We are having so much fun this summer. On a trip to Camdenton I found this little bird that I have been looking for for a while now. Isn't it adorable?!

There's some things you pick up and you think, 'That's cute, do I want this?' and then there's things that you grab up quickly and say, 'Oh, I love it!' and you don't dare put it back down. That's the way it was with this little bird creamer.

This planter was from a shop in Osage Beach, MO. Is that cute or what?! You know, if you're ever in Missouri and go antiquing you may run into me! There are certain things I look for when I go. Planters, of course, Folk Art Pfaltzgraff, enamelware, tea trivets and figurines. I can't resist a sewing machine drawer and I love the old woven sewing baskets. I always have my eyes open for Enid Collins wooden purses, vintage cards, dress patterns, and postcards.

Some of my treasures were inherited. This sweet little set of deer belonged to my Aunt Pearl. It is a joy to have them now. She lived in Illinois and I only saw her once a year.

Sunday I was in an antique store in Joplin and found this sweet little deer. He was so precious that I had to bring him home with me.

I hope you enjoyed catching up on my treasure hunting with me. I wish we could just all get together and go antiquing! My kids and I are going to continue enjoying our daycations this summer and see what else we can find!
I hope you all are enjoying your week! Twyla

Hello friends,

Sanrio is the company that created the extremely popular Hello Kitty line. In 2007 Mattel came out with this Hello Kitty Barbie. She has a fabulous faux leather jacket and striped shirt which reminds me of Barbie's original bathing suit. She is cute but very modern in style.

A year late Mattel release this ultra cute Hello Kitty Barbie! She is so awesome! I love her hair style and makeup! She has a retro 50's and vintage Barbie feel to her that I love! Even the open toe heels are reminiscent of a vintage doll.

Mattel also released a My Melody Barbie. My Melody is cute bunny created by Sanrio and is one of Hello Kitty's Friends. I was very lucky in finding this doll at Tuesday Morning for only ten dollars! I don't visit Tuesday Morning very often and I forget they get in Barbies every now and then. I stopped in the other day hoping to find the Little Red Riding Hood Barbie and instead found this lovely doll. If you have a Tuesday Morning store in you area you should go look around unless of course you live in my area which then save the Barbies for me please!!!!!!!!

The face of the My Melody Barbie reminds me of a vintage Midge doll. The hair color and the freckles on her checks.

It's funny, back in the 60's Japan they thought that Midge was so ugly that they created a different version!

Thanks for stopping by, Lindsey
