Twyla Tuesday

Hello, my friends!

Have you ever gone to the beauty shop for a little trim and got more than you bargained for?
Well, sometimes it happens with groomers, too. This was the dog I left at the groomer. . .

. . . and this is the dog I picked up!

I honestly did not recognise my own dog! Where did his ears go? No groomer has ever cut him so short. To her credit, he was very matted and in need of a good clipping. He is extremely happy to be free of all the tangles and now he's not so hot.

After some getting used to and realizing he does have the same mannerisms as Muffin, the new look is growing on me! After all, who could resist this adorable face?!

Spencer was also a woolly little poodle. We were pleasantly surprised when we picked him up!

What a beauty! It is hard to believe that beautiful baby was under all that fur!

He always feels so pretty, he thinks he's special when he comes home from the groomer. Of course we give him special treatment too, after all, it's a traumatic being away from your family.

Our babies are the light of our lives. They have brought us so much love and joy since coming to live with us.

Their favorite time of day is 'Nummie time!' They get a treat every evening and believe me they know when it's supposed to come!

I hope you enjoyed seeing two of the cutest things at our house. We sure love them!

Have a safe and happy week to all our dear readers. Twyla

Tags for a Friend

Hello All,

Recently I was requested by a friend to make tags for the upcoming Holidays. I enjoyed making them and I hope that she loves them!

Here is the Christmas set that I made for her. I used a sweet angel image holding a tree from my collection of vintage cards. I added clear glitter to her dress, her wings and the tree.

This is the Thanksgiving set I made using a sweet postcard image and orange glitter!

And here is the Halloween set. This costumed cutie is from a vintage postcard also. You will probably notice that all three tag sets feature a scalloped punch. It is my favorite new toy by Martha Stewart from Wal Mart!

These tags I used are coffee dyed with vanilla and cinnamon and baked in the oven! They smell incredible! You can find them on ebay at Magic Moonlight Studio.

Lastly this set of tags will also be going along with the others!

We hope you are enjoying your weekend,

Lindsey and Twyla

Barbie Wednesday

Welcome to another Barbie Wednesday!

This week I have a Twist N Turn Barbie to show you! I found her at the flea market where I purchased the last 2 dolls I have featured, Twiggy and Francie. I am still unsure what year this TNT came out. I know that it was late 60's but I haven't figured out for sure the year. She has long sideburns which is a characteristic that I haven't seen with the TNT's in my books.
She also came with this Barbie and Stacey Sleep & Keep case from 1969.

The dress Barbie is wearing is called " Pretty Power" #1863 from 1969. This dress would have come with black open toe or Pilgrim shoes.

This outfit she is wearing is called " Happy Go Pink" #1868 from 1969.

And this dress from 1970 is called "Loop Scoop" #1454. This dress is one of my favorites in my collection now. I love the bright yellow and braids of colors along the bottom. This dress would have come with yellow Pilgrim shoes.

I hope you have enjoyed looking at my new Twist N Turn Barbie today! Thank you for visiting and please feel free if you want to grab the banner and participate in Barbie Wednesday with me!

I hope you all had a wonderful long weekend. I am not letting go of the thought that summer is over yet, because I have had one of the most fun summers I can ever remember. We have visited so many wonderful small towns and visited so many great new flea markets and antique stores that we've never been to before. I honestly didn't know my state of Missouri was as beautiful as it really is! I think we are so lucky to be from this part of the country!

I like to play in my sunroom. I put together this little vignette on the table in the sunroom. The fun thing about it is that most everything cost between $2 and $4!

I so love the simple country look. I think because it takes me back to weeks spent with my grandparents on the farm.

There's a part of me that never grew up. I love old children's toys and though I don't have a big collection, I love this little washer and washboard. Want to come play with me?

Holly made this wreath for me as a hostess gift for the Wizard of Oz Gala. It was so sweet of her. I'm sure Dorothy Gale would have loved it! In case you hadn't noticed, Lindsey moved the participants list to the bottom of our sidebar.

My friend, from the blog Sparkle Farkle, sent me this little surprise gift. I think it is so sweet that she knows me well enough from our blog to know that these things would thrill me! What could be sweeter than vintage cards, stickers, and postcard?!

I must tell you that Lindsey and I are doing a major renovation of our craft room. The room was an utter nightmare! We had only a small area to craft and the rest was used for storage. Lindsey is working very hard to clear this room and I am working at sorting and disposing of everything we can and don't need. It is a challenge and I am not making any promises on how long it will take until there is an 'after' picture, but stay tuned! If I am brave I will show you the before:)

I want you to know that I am still walking to Deb's house, too! I have now walked 205 miles and made it to Chillicothe, MO! Just a little more of Missouri to go and I'll be in Iowa! I think walking everyday is a simple thing you can do for your health and you can make it fun, too!
I hope you all know how much I care about you and appreciate you stopping by for a visit today!
Have a wonderful week!

Hello my blog friends!!!

What a wet Labor Day weekend we are having here in Missouri. Earlier in the week when it was sunny Mom and I went to a couple of flea markets!

One of my favorite finds was this old high chair. I have been admiring it for awhile and when we went the other day it was half off so I knew then it was coming home with me! Here is a close up of the decal on the front.

Isn't it sweet?! I love the little cottage!

I also found an old ironing board. It is white with black legs. It has this old label on the top which I think is super cool!

I rarely ever find old Tally cards but that day I found several along with a couple old cards and a postcard.

I found an old stationary box, too. Jolly Notes! I hope every note wrote with this stationary was jolly!

I've heard of Dennison crepe paper from other blogs but I have never found any until this week. I love the packaging! I think it looks very Art Nouveau. I wish I knew what year this was from?

Here are a few more Tally cards I found.

I hope your enjoying your Labor day weekend!

Barbie Wednesday

Welcome to Barbie Wednesday!

I found a 1966 Francie doll last week when I found the Twiggy! It was my lucky day! She is the first Francie in my collection. She has rooted eyelashes!

Included were some Francie fashions!

Mattel has started featuring new Barbie's for the Spring 2010 line! From the popular "Dolls of the Worlds" series, is Russian Barbie. Isn't she gorgeous?!! I love her long blue coat!

I think this one is hilarious!!!! Do you remember the I Love Lucy episode #22 "Lucy is Envious" where Lucy and Ethel dress up like women from Mars for a publicity stunt? If not, then you should youtube that episode because, wow, that episode has always stuck out in my mind from when I was little!

Pottery Barn Kids have come out with an amazing collection of sheets and pillows in a most dreamy Barbie collection!

Love it!!!!!!!

I hope you enjoyed looking at these Barbie goodies!!!

Life just couldn't be any more beautiful right now! Southern Missouri is experiencing unseasonably low temperatures and humidity. This is a picture of my sunroom where it feels very good to spend time in right now.

This beautiful vintage birdcage was a gift from my friend, Elizabeth. The birdcage was enchanting already, but she made the precious bluebird and lovely felt roses to embellish it.

Isn't it just beautiful?!

I love old things. I love collecting little items that I know have some real age to them. Especially if something is dated in the 1800's. I decided to group some of these items together in a jar.

I also like to think of my grandmother's before me. My son, Jordan, has done lots of research into our geneology. It is neat to me to know some of my grandmother's names. I had a grandmother named Hannah Finch and one named Charlotte Fairfield. I especially like that I have one named Charity, one named Freelove (that was her first name!) and a great grandfather who's first name was Pleasant.

I gathered the old thread spools that were aged and slightly stained, and started adding some elements that were sweet to me. This greeting card is very old.

I found the picture of this little girl in an antique store and just loved her. She looks so sweet. I added her to one side. I decided to add a special momento to each side of the jar.

I found these crochet hooks in a little antique store in a small town. They were definitely special enough to go in this jar.

I don't know if you can tell by the picture, but they were hand whittled! I like to think of some loving husband long ago patiently trying to shape the hook for his wife to crochet with. They were used, you can tell by the smoothness of the wood and the lovely patina. I can only imagine that maybe one time she needed to stir a little bottle of paint and used the end of her crochet hook. That is the only reason I can think of why the end of the large one is painted silver.

The blogging world is full of so many talented women. I am lucky to say that I have met many through our blogs and now call them friends.

This package arrived in the mail from one of these special ladies, Paulette of beedeebabee. She makes beautiful pins that she crafts from felt and needlebooks. This one is so beautiful and so sweet. Her workmanship is impecable. Thank you, Paulette!

Wouldn't my great great grandmother's be amazed at how we can connect with other women today? We are very fortunate to have this internet connection and know of other's who have similar interests and arts as ourselves. I cherish the connection that I have with so many of you and hope that you always feel warm and welcome when you stop in to visit with Lindsey and myself.
I hope that you all have a wonderful week! Twyla
