Don’t adjust your monitor. Or check to see if you have the right blog. This is still Two Crazy Crafters. I just wanted to talk about a weightier issue this week. I promise I will show you something cute before this post is over.
One thing about me that you don’t know is that I used to be a big girl. Yes, I wore big girl panties - and everything else. I was a size 24 at my largest. I consider the fact that I have lost 100 lbs and kept it off for 12 years to be one of the most extraordinary things I have done in my life.
I started cutting out the fat and eating healthier. Started walking – A LOT and the weight started coming off. Also my motivation was in the right place. I wanted to live to see my children grow up! Once I started losing, it was much easier to keep going. It took me about two years to loose the whole 100 lbs. That was okay, it was a lot to loose. My husband likes to say that it’s easier to loose the weight, but it’s harder to keep it off. I like to tell Him that there was Nothing easy about loosing the weight and honestly, it hasn’t been that hard keeping it off. I just picked up some good eating habits over the two years that have stuck with me. I also worked as a weight loss councilor for five years after loosing it. That helped also I am sure. I would just encourage any of you wanting to drop a few pounds to stay motivated and get moving. Life is too short not to take good care of yourself.
Now, onto the cute stuff.
You know, if I could find all my stuff, I could make some pretty cute things! I can find part of every project, just not all of it. Our projects are spread out all over the house. The spirit is willing, but the brain is weak.
That’s probably one of the reasons I keep returning to this project.
I know where my yarn is and my crochet hook, scissors and darning needle are close by.
I have picked up a few little treasures this past week I have not shown you. This cute little tin plate, small picture and sweet panda. My son bought me these things. I raised both my kids in flea markets and they still both love going to them to this day. When they were little I taught them to walk through the flea markets with their hands held behind their backs. They were so cute.
I have a new (old) autograph book, too. This one is from 1884. It is very fragile.
I just had to tell you one of the poems that was written dated
May 10th 1884:
Dearest Friend Nettie,
As sure as comes your wedding day a broom to you I send,
In sunshine use the brushy part and in storm the other end.
This is a new years card from the 1800’s also very fragile.
It is getting closer to give away time, this is our 96th post. Here is another sneak peak!
Our doggies do the cutest things sometimes.
You never know when you turn on the computer what great blog you might discover. I always enjoy going through blog roles and seeing who other people read. I found a fantastic one this morning. It is called The Lark. She is fantastically, craftily talented and shows the cutest vintage items and images. You must check her out!

Wishing you much happiness! Twyla
Hi, Twyla, I'm Holly! i'm enjoying your blog.
ReplyDeleteHow fun it must be to have a daughter to share your hobbies with! I have 4 boys so these "girly" blogs mean a lot to me. :>
Well, congrats on your weight loss! "Big girl panties"- that was funny! I'm really tall so I can "hide" the weight fairly well but this last Spring that fat suddenly came out of hiding and I realized I had to do something. Wow! I never imaginined it would be so hard to loose but now I seem to be on a roll- roll back that is. Whew! I only have a few more pounds or inches to loose now but I really admire those who manage to loose a 100 pounds or more!
Have a great day!

Congratulations on the weight loss and maintaining it, I'm doing weight watchers myself at the moment and I know how hard it can be to stay focussed.

Twyla, thanks for sharing the serious stuff! That kind of weight loss is life changing and something that makes you a tremendous impact on your life-Your self confidence and self-esteem probably were sky high after you accomplished your goal. I have lost and gained 20-25 pounds so many times. You are an inspiration. Its 6am, i guess its time for a walk.. Have a good day!
ReplyDeleteHi Twyla...OMG, congratulations on your weight loss. I lost 100 pounds about 6 years ago...but unfortunately, I'm putting it back on too. With the back pain, it's hard to get moving again. I'm going to try tho..slowly!
ReplyDeleteI love all your treasures and can't wait for the giveaway!!!
Hugz,
Michele
Aren't you pretty! I know how hard it is to lose weight and I commend you! I've lost 23 since February. It is very slow for me as I take insulin and that hinders the weight loss. I keep plugging away though. I know it would go faster if I could make myself do lots of exercise.
ReplyDeleteI love your granny squares. Would you believe I couldn't find a crochet hook the other day and had to go "buy" one.
Twyla,
ReplyDeleteThat was a very vulnerable and touching post. I have battled the bulge for years. I am an optimist though and never give up. The most impressive part is the fact that you have maintained your weight loss and that is no easy feat. My congratulations and gratitude to you for sharing your story.
And yes, our fur babies make us so happy!

Wow, Twyla - you look fantastic!! I never would have guessed that you had lost 100 lbs. Congratulations. I really admire someone who can achieve a goal like that. You have good reason to be really proud of yourself.
ReplyDeleteYour giveaway is looking more interesting by the day.
Hugs,
Kim
Many congratulations for losing all that weight. You've done amazingly well to keep the weight off. You were worth it! You are thinner than me, LOL!
ReplyDeleteAll your craft supplies look so inspiring in the photos.
Hi Twyla,
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing your struggle and WIN with weight..it is a daily choice for me and I'm not making the right one...So, GOOD FOR YOU :) I really like your doggies :) but you already know I'm a lover of animals :) Thanks again for sharing :) Hugs, Deb :)
amazing! I have and do struggle with weight. I lost forty pounds a few years ago and then fell off the 'wagon' at Christmas time. I have been working on the 'reasons' I eat this time and not just 'what' I eat.
ReplyDeleteI find long term 'losers' very encouraging. Thanks for the "cheerleading"
wOw! Thanks for sharing your weight-loss story. My goal is to drop 25 pounds .. joined a gym this week. You are very disciplined! AND encouraging. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by!
You are a great inspiration! Not only with your weight loss, but with your wit. You are so right--Life is so precious, we must be good to ourselves and take care of ourselves.
ReplyDeleteYou inspire me to also at least think about crocheting again. :)
I would have never guessed that you were a "big Girl" Twyla. Good for you for loosing 100 lbs!! You look wonderful!! I am 90 lbs over weight. I need a good support system though and I honestly just don't have one. Anyway, your autograph album is really nice and I love your crochet work!
ReplyDeleteHave a great day!
Sherry
Wow! Twyla... that is an amazing accomplishment! and that you've kept it off all these years!
ReplyDeleteI have no will power at all!
But you've inspired me once again.. and it looks like you've inspired 14 others...so far too!
Talented and inspirational! sheesh!
xoxo is there anything you can't do?
Your daughter has quite a roll model and friend. How lucky you both are to have each other!!!

ReplyDeleteCongratulations!
It can be hard to take off the weight but it sounds like you found a great way to do it!
It is amazing what we will do for our children!
I meant to comment about this, and forgot. It entered my mind again while I was painting for some reason.
ReplyDeleteTwyla,
I am so impressed with your weight loss program and how you have kept the weight off for twelve years.
I wanted to tell you that I think it is wonderful and even though we've never met, I am very inspired and proud of you.
