Hello dear ladies!
Today I am sharing with you something I
consider a special treasure.
A book found at an antique store of one of
my favorite fairytales.
The book is so old and the pages are brittle and
darkened with age. At some point the pages
must have threatened to fall apart because someone
had duck taped all the pages in place.
I could hardly believe when I cracked open
the brittle spine and spied the gorgeous illustrations inside.
After buying the book for a mere $5, I was able to carefully
separate the very dry and brittle duck tape in order to save the
images.
It obviously was a very loved book and a very old inscription
on the back says 'To Miss Mary Howard From her Teacher'
There is no publisher, illustrator or date on the book.
I would dearly love to know how old it really is.
As a little girl my grandmother used to read Little Red
Riding Hood to me and I must have heard it hundreds of times.
It's no wonder that I have such a fondness for her.
This set of salt and pepper shakers were a recent
find.
Thank you so much for visiting with me today.
Wishing you all much happiness!
Twyla
These illustrations are beautiful! I'm glad that they fell into your hands, thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteI can't believe these lovely pictures! Is it possible for Lindsey to make tags with an image of Red Riding Hood and the door with the roses? If she can, I want to order a set. Please let me know! xoxo

Twyla, what a wonderful find. . The illustrations are so dear. I have always loved the story of LIttle Red Riding Hood too. I made a little red cape and dressed my daughter as LRR for her first halloween... One of these days I'll have to post those pictures.
ReplyDeleteTwyla!
ReplyDeleteDuct tape! YIKES! Good thing you rescued it. The pages you shared all wonderful! I don't think there is anything prettier than an old book of fairy tales or children's stories. Thanks so much for sharing. This is wonderful!

ReplyDeleteHave a great Tuesday, dear friend! ♥
I have seen those images before and they are just lovely. What a find for you and to save it from the duck tape. A popular item here in Alaska. My doctor was sitting in the exam room with her lap top on her knees and it was repaired with duck tape that just cracked me up.
ReplyDeleteWHAT A BEAUTIFUL VINTAGE BOOK, THE WEAR AND TEAR JUST SHOWS THE LOVE IT HAD ALL THESE YEARS. LOVE ALL THE PICTURES.

I don't know why people are so upset with the duck tape. It is the strongest tape I know of and it will hold maybe the silver color might be the problem but if they have a color to blend with the book it wouldn't look so bad
ReplyDeleteHow beautiful! There is nothing quite so quaint as those vintage paintings.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing!
Blessings
Such cute little salt and pepper shakers and I love the vintage illustrations. Very charming. A great find!
