Hello friends!
Today I am sharing a tutorial for how I easily dye seam binding to use in my crafting.
For this you will need:
Seam Binding, I recommend Hug Snug (found here)
Distress Ink
spray bottle
water
heat gun, embossing gun or blow dryer
First Start by cutting off strips of seam binding. I cut several sized strips at a time.
Now pick out the Distress Ink color you want. I am using Old Lipstick.
The reason why I use Distress ink is that it has great coverage and the ink reacts with water, meaning it's not a permanent ink. So when we add water the ink will spread and cover your ribbon.
Now take your ink pad and rub it across the ribbon. If you want a dark color rub the ink across both sides. If you want a lighter more antique color just rub it across one side. As you rub you will have patches that are darker or lighter, that is fine. It will spread and I really like the effect it has.
Now spray your ribbon with water. I am using a mini mister, but any spray bottle will work. Spray until the color starts to spread, turning the ribbon over and over until it's fully saturated. Now you can ball it up in your hand if you want it to have a wrinkled, antique look.
Now use your heat gun to dry the seam binding. You can also air dry.
I hope you enjoyed this tutorial and try it!

Very nice tutorial.
ReplyDeleteI also like to just crinkle it. I tie it in a wad, wet it and throw it into the dryer. It comes out great!
