Twyla on Tuesday - Bed and Breakfast

Hello dear ladies!
Over the weekend I had the opportunity
to spend the the night at a bed and breakfast!

We had a lovely room that was so homey and
comfortable I didn't want to leave!

It was in the town of Arrow Rock, MO.  The people here are
so friendly and I love to spend time here.

I so enjoyed the antiques in the room!  Just
my style!
There was even a sitting room!

I'd like to wish each of you a happy
Halloween!  I hope you have a safe,
fun time!

Love, Twyla

Hello Halloween

Hello friends!
With Halloween coming up in a few days I thought I would share this cute old poem I found in a vintage book of mine.

Hello, there, Halloween, hello!
Welcome, howdy - do!
I've been getting ready
To have some fun with you.

I've carved a Jack - o - lantern
And put a candle in it,
And I can have it gleaming
In far less than a minute.

I have a bag of yellow corn
To throw about the place
And just you wait until you see
My costume and my face!

Awesome Vintage Card Find!

Hello friends!
I want to start off this post by saying a big hello to the sweet lady from Alaska that came by to see me last Friday afternoon at work. Unfortunately I wasn't there at the time and I am so sad that I did not get to meet this blog reader in person.
So I just want to say, Hello and thank you for reading our blog, thinking of us and stopping by Scrapbook Generation!
I hope the opportunity to meet comes up again someday!!

One of my favorite customers came in early this week. I always enjoy talking to her and seeing which paper lines she picks. As I was checking her out, she told me that she was at a local flea market the other day and saw several scrapbooks full of vintage cards, and thought of me.

So naturally that was all I could think of for the rest of my day! How and when could I get there? What time did they close? What time would they open the next day? It's not one of my frequent stops as it is a very messy, junky shop.

So, on my way home, I made a mad dash to get there with only a few minutes left before closing. I was so thrilled when I spotted them in the first booth!! Ha! I thought I was going to have to do some crazy fast searching with the employees trying to force me out the door!!

I got 4 books full of vintage cards. Most of them are Christmas, and they all seem to be from the mid 1950's.

I'm so excited!
I haven't had time to go through them all and take them out of the crumbling, musty, old books. I look forward to sharing some of my sweet card finds with you here!

Well, that was my excitement this week!!!

Have a lovely day, Lindsey

Twyla on Tuesday - Treasure Hunting

Hello!
We all like treasure hunting, don't we?
I recently had the pleasure of seeing one of the
greatest treasure hunts of our state!
Who wouldn't want to find these?!
Beautiful ironstone!

In 1856 the steamboat Arabia sank in the Missouri river
near Parkville, MO.  It quickly sank into the mud and
fortunately everyone survived except for one mule who
was tied to the boat.

In 1988 a team of Missouri treasure seekers located and
successfully rescued the cargo that lay below.
They spent months digging the muddy items from their grave
and set about cleaning and restoring these treasures.

They opened a museum in Kansas City to share this monumental
treasure hunt with others.  I enjoyed this experience very much
and so appreciate the hard work that is still ongoing today as
they continue to clean and preserve these bits of history.

I was thrilled to see the anchor of the Arabia!  They have other
parts of the boat that was able to be salvaged and preserved.
The room set up below, shows what life was like during the
time the Arabia sank.
I enjoyed this so much, but then I love
history!

Thank you so much for stopping by today for a visit!
Have a most wonderful week!
Love, Twyla

Happy Haunting Altered Cigar Box

Hello friends!
Here is a project I created this summer.
It's a cigar box that I altered and added a wooden house piece to the top.
The house was found at my local craft store and wooden cigar boxes can easily be picked up at cigar shops or antique shops/thrift stores.

I used Graphic 45's Happy Haunting paper line. Cutting out lots of small pieces and layering over this box.

In each of the 4 corners I've added cut out stand ups to give this a more 3d effect.

I just adored this paper line! Such fun to work with. It's been awhile since I created an altered project and this was a lot of fun!

Here's a couple close ups of the box.
I removed the hardware to adhere the paper across the front of the box, and reattached it later.

For the inside of the box,
I decorated the lid and created a mini album to fit inside.

This album was so chunky, it just barely fit!

The antique style of this paper line was so easy to work with! I just loved the polka dots and spiders paper!

If you have any scrappy/crafty questions, don't hesitate to ask!

I am getting ready to spend this weekend at a scrapbooking retreat!
I've been busy packing this week, getting my craft room slightly more organized!!

Twyla on Tuesday - Mantle Re-Do

Hello dear friends!
I have had a couple of busy weeks
and I have missed visiting with you on Tuesdays!

You know how it lifts your spirits to do a bit of
redecorating?  Well, my mantle was in bad need
of a re-do.

There is a LOT on my mantle, but these are all things
I love and love to look at.  Motto prints, pottery, old prints
and a 1909 sampler that was a birthday gift from my son.
The oval behind it is a pearl inlaid chairback from an
antique walnut chair.

The picture below is one I took while visiting Eureka
Springs, AR this summer.  It is always a feast for the eyes
with visions of loveliness everywhere you look.

I'll leave you with a thought from a dear lady that
I miss.

'It takes a lot of courage to show your dreams to
someone else.'  - Erma Bombeck

Thank you for stopping by!
Have a beautiful day!
Love, Twyla

Halloween.... in Wonderland?

Hello friends!
I've been going through my craft room this week, looking for things to get rid of when I spotted this Halloween layout.

I created this back in 2010 for a class and just tucked it away.

I was quite fond of this paper line! Graphic 45's Halloween in Wonderland. Such a unique take on Halloween!

It's fun to pull out older work and see how my style changes over the years.
I think most crafters like myself find that their work really evolves and changes with time.

I will always love distressing and inking though!!!!

Have a wonderful day, Lindsey
